Description

I just purchased this antique pharmacy/ apothecary / drug store label dispenser box at a local estate here in Central Virginia.  The wooden cabinet has one drawer and is marked inside 5911.  The original label plate is missing, but the box has all the features of early 1900 McCourt cabinets.  The piece was in use at Fishburne Drugstore in Waynesboro,
Virginia, late 1800’s and comes with a note to the Fishburne’s from a client and dated 1894.  The cabinet measures 17″ long x 7 1/2″ deep x 5 1/4″ high.  It is in good condition with nice oak patina and two knobs on the drawer.  There are 3 holes on the top piece as pictured and a dark space on the front that held the label.  There are nine slots inside the cabinet.  There are holes in the dividers and removable rods that hold the labels in place.  Metal plates cover the rolls of labels so a label can be easily torn off a roll and applied to a pharmacy bottle. The sections are labeled: Blank, Adv. Label, Poison Blank, Poison, Shake Well, External Use, Blank #3 Prescription, Blank #2, Blank #1.  The actual rolls of labels are: Poison, External Use Only, This Prescription Cannot Be Refilled Under the Law, 2 rolls Fishburne & Son Pharmacy, Poison Fishburne.  A rare piece of history!
