M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXIX. laureate head to right.
Reverse:
IMP VII COS III, S C in exergue. River-god reclining left on upturned urn pouring out water, holding stern of boat and reeds.
Excellent exemplar of this very rare and interesting coin, in EF condition, conserving full details in both sides, very bold reliefs and a superb green patina totally natural. Besides the coin looks much better in hand than in photo (really, it´s not a topic). A coin for demanding collectors!
The traditional description of the river-god in reverse identified it with the river Tiber. However, recent studies have purposed the possibility that the represented river is the great Danube, commemorating the campaign against the Marcomanni and their expulsion from the north river of the Danube.
